Solskjaer facing striker injury crisis ahead of Man Utd’s clash with West Brom

Edinson Cavani could be set for his first Manchester United start as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a potential injury crisis up front.

The Red devils could be without Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood when Solskjaer’s side return to Premier League action against West Brom this weekend.

Martial became the latest United forward to give the manager a headache when he missed training with his national team on Monday due to a back complaint.

The 24-year-old sat out their 4-2 Nations League victory over Sweden on Tuesday, and he played against both Portugal and Finland over the previous week.

Rashford also suffered a shoulder injury during United’s 3-1 victory over Everton just before the international break, and even had to withdraw from England duty.

Meanwhile, Greenwood did not join up with Gareth Southgate’s squad or the under-21s after his club asked for him to be rested after a series of minor niggles and personal issues recently.

The 19-year-old was left out of Solskjaer’s squad for the game against Everton, although he did play in his side’s Champions League defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir three days before that.

Although, There is hope that Martial, Rashford and Greenwood could all be fit enough to face West Brom at Old Trafford on Saturday.

But the injury list could present Solskjaer with the perfect chance to give Cavani a start following his goalscoring cameo role against Everton. He has made five appearances in all competitions since his deadline day move to United, each time coming on as a substitute.

And, United could have Alex Telles available for Saturday after another coronavirus scare. The defender missed the last five matches after contracting the virus.
